No Line Between "Those Who Give" and "Those Who Receive"
Traditional charity treats volunteers and recipients as separate worlds. At Quinsigamond Village, we reject that divide. Many of our most steadfast volunteers are neighbors who also receive grocery support from our food pantry.
When you volunteer here, you work shoulder-to-shoulder with people who understand South Worcester because they live here. Your time doesn't just restock shelves—it creates human connection, destroys food stigma, and builds generational trust.
Guided by asset-based community development and Feeding America's dignity-first framing standards.

Frequently Asked Questions About Volunteering in Worcester
Everything you need to know before walking through our doors at 200 Greenwood Street.
Do I need any prior food pantry or grocery experience?
Not at all! Every volunteer receives a friendly, 15-minute hands-on orientation from Program Director Alison Mallett on their first day. Experienced volunteers are always on hand to guide you.
What is the minimum age to volunteer at QVCC?
Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Youth volunteers ages 14–17 require a signed parental consent form (available at our office). Volunteers age 18 and older complete standard CORI/SORI processing.
Can high school, college, or court-referred volunteers get hours certified?
Yes! We sign and verify 100% of community service documentation—including Worcester Public Schools graduation requirements, National Honor Society (NHS), college service-learning courses, and court-supervised hour log sheets.
Can our company, department, or civic group volunteer together?
Absolutely. We regularly host corporate team workdays, church groups, and civic clubs for 2-3 hour packing and sorting shifts (groups of 5 to 25 people). Note your group details in the application below.
What should I wear when volunteering?
Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate casual clothing and sturdy, closed-toe footwear (sneakers or work boots). For safety reasons, sandals, open-toed shoes, and flip-flops are strictly prohibited in the pantry and storage bays.
How does the CORI background check work?
Because QVCC serves vulnerable children and senior citizens, adult volunteers complete a brief CORI/SORI check processed securely through our 501(c)(3) partner organization, Friendly House. There is zero cost to you.
What happens in severe winter weather or snow storms?
Safety comes first. If Worcester Public Schools close or delay due to severe snow or ice, QVCC pantry volunteer operations are closed or delayed accordingly. We post immediate updates on our Facebook page and phone line.
What if my schedule changes from week to week?
We understand work and family commitments change. While regular weekly shifts help our pantry plan, we also maintain a flexible "on-call" roster for special delivery unloads, diaper packaging, and holiday drives.
