Accessibility Statement & Standards
Quinsigamond Village Community Center believes that access to vital community support, food pantry information, and civic heritage must be barrier-free for every neighbor, regardless of ability or technology.
1. Our Accessibility Commitment
Quinsigamond Village Community Center is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards defined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA.
As a grassroots 501(c)(3) serving vulnerable populations, including elderly residents, mobility-impaired neighbors, and neurodiverse visitors, accessibility is not merely a technical checklist—it is an extension of our mission of unconditional community care.
2. Technical Accessibility Measures in Place
Throughout our web platform, we incorporate the following engineering standards:
Full Keyboard Operability
Every link, modal trigger, donation button, and form field can be operated solely using a keyboard (Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Space, and Escape to dismiss dialogs).
Visible Focus Indicators
Interactive elements feature prominent, high-contrast visual focus rings (focus:ring-2 focus:ring-offset-2) ensuring keyboard users never lose their visual location on the screen.
Color Contrast Compliance
Text colors, button labels, and background badges strictly exceed the WCAG AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for body copy and 3.0:1 for large headers, tested against dark and light themes.
Screen Reader & ARIA Landmarks
Pages are structured using standard HTML5 landmarks (<header>, <nav>, <main>, <footer>) and ARIA roles for modals and alerts to support screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver).
A dedicated skip-link is rendered at the top of every page, allowing screen reader and keyboard navigators to bypass top bars and navigation headers directly to the page content.
iOS & Mobile Zoom Protection
All interactive form inputs maintain a minimum base font size of 16px on mobile devices, preventing iOS Safari from forcing automatic viewport zooming and keeping the interface stable.
3. Physical Campus Accessibility at 200 Greenwood Street
In addition to digital accessibility, our physical community center and food pantry operations at Emanuel Lutheran Church provide full physical accommodations:
The red food pantry outbuilding in the rear church lot features a wide, gentle-slope wooden ramp with sturdy handrails accommodating wheelchairs, power scooters, and grocery carts.
Neighbors unable to climb the ramp can pull their vehicle directly alongside the ramp. Pantry volunteers will bring boxed groceries directly to your trunk or backseat.
For homebound seniors residing at 38 Lewis Street and surrounding public housing, our mobile van routes deliver groceries directly to your apartment doorstep.
4. Keyboard Navigation Guide
| Key / Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| Tab | Advance focus forward to the next interactive link, button, or form input. |
| Shift + Tab | Move focus backward to the previous interactive element. |
| Enter / Space | Activate the currently focused button, link, or accordion toggle. |
| Escape | Instantly close any open modal (Emergency Intake, Quick Donate, Pantry Needs, Cookie Preferences). |
