The Diaper Need Gap in Massachusetts
Babies require between 8 to 12 diapers a day, costing over $100 per month. When parents experience diaper shortages, babies are left in soiled diapers for extended periods—leading to painful diaper dermatitis, urinary tract infections, and severe emotional distress for parents.
Furthermore, virtually all licensed daycares and Head Start centers require parents to supply a full daily stash of disposable diapers. Without diapers, parents cannot leave their children at daycare to work or attend job training.
“A clean diaper is not a luxury. It is a fundamental health necessity, an educational prerequisite, and a basic human right.”
— Alison Mallett, Executive Director

Frequently Asked Questions: Diaper & Formula Pantry
Common questions about sizes, eligibility, and diaper donation drives.
Are diapers and baby wipes covered by SNAP or WIC in Massachusetts?
No. Neither federal SNAP (food stamps) nor WIC benefits allow funds to be used for diapers, baby wipes, diaper rash creams, or infant toiletries. This creates an acute "diaper gap" costing young families over $100 to $120 per month per child. Our pantry exists specifically to fill this unassisted gap.
Do I need a baby’s birth certificate or proof of income to receive diapers?
Never. Quinsigamond Village Community Center operates on an unconditional dignity model. You do not need a birth certificate, pay stub, or referral. Simply tell us what sizes your babies wear and we will pack them with love.
How often can I pick up diapers and formula?
Families can receive diaper bundles and baby supplies on a weekly recurring basis alongside their regular grocery pantry visit. If an emergency arises between visits, walk in during pantry hours (Mon–Thu 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM).
What brand of infant formula do you carry?
We stock standard commercial iron-fortified milk formulas (such as Similac Advance, Enfamil Infant, or store-brand equivalents), as well as gentle/sensitive lactose-reduced options. All formula is verified sealed and strictly monitored for manufacturer expiration dates.
How can individuals or community groups host a diaper drive?
Diaper drives are our lifeline! Churches, schools, and civic clubs can collect open or unopened packages of diapers (especially sizes 4, 5, 6, and pull-ups) and drop them off Monday through Thursday from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM at 200 Greenwood Street. Call (508) 755-7481 to arrange weekend drop-offs.
